Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus was born on November 23, 1992; she is an American pop rock singer and television and film actress. She is best known for her character on the Disney Channel, Hannah Montana.

She also has an older sister named Brandi, an older brother named Trace and a younger brother named Braison. Her dad is Billy Ray Cyrus, and he is her stage father, too.

She made large contributions to different organizations like Youth Service America, and City of Hope, which is a cancer research center.

Barack Obama

Barack Hussein Obama II was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. His mother was Ann Dunham, and American of English descent from Wichita, Kansas. His father was Barack Obama, Sr., from Kenya. His parents met in 1960 in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

He married Michelle Obama in 1992. He studied at Columbia University and Harvard Law School. He worked as a civil rights attorney and taught law at the University of Chicago from 1992-2004. He served three terms in the Illinois Senate and was elected to the US Senate in 2004. He began his run for the presidency in Feb. 2007. After running against Hillary Rodham Clinton, he won his party's nomination and became the first major party African American candidate for president.

In the 2008 presidential election, he defeated Republican nominee John McCain and was inaugurated as president on January 20, 2009. He became the first president born in Hawaii and the third president to hail from Illinois. Many people like him because he represents the fact that African Americans can aspire to the presidency.

John Lennon

John Lennon was born in England on October 9, 1940 and died on December 8, 1980. He was married to Yoko Ono and had a son called Sean, whom he loved and raised. He was an English rock musician, singer-songwriter, author and peace activist, and gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of the Beatles, a well-known rock-and-roll band.

He was controversial through his work as a peace activist and visual artist. Even though he was loved by many people and always ranked highly, he was murdered.

Paulo Freire

Paulo Freire was a Brazilian educator. He was very famous because he helped poor people to read and write.

He was born on September 19, 1921. When he was 8 years old he became familiar with poverty and hunger. These experiences made him think of the poor and the education around them.

He studied law but he worked as a teacher in secondary school teaching Portuguese. He also worked for the Department of Cultural Extension of Recife University where he had the opportunity to apply his theories in education and helped 300 sugarcane workers to read and write in just 45 days. In response to this experiment, the Brazilian government approved the creation of thousands of cultural circles around the country.

He also designed the furniture and window panes of his buildings. He was a popular man who was the center of attention of the society of his time. Nowadays, people still think that he was a master of architecture.
